Support » Plugin: PayPal for WooCommerce » Payment failed due to duplicate order ID

  • Hi There,

First, thank you for all of the work that you all have done on the plugin. It’s been great so far, and made our jobs much easier.

Recently, we ran into a situation where we would get the error, “Payment failed due to duplicate order ID”, despite having the invoice ID prefix set, as well as enabling duplicate payments on our PayPal account.

We ran into this issue when a user needed to void the authorization on a credit card and use a new card on the same order. Voiding the authorization went through without a problem, but when they tried to run the new payment method, they received the duplicate id error.

  • Hi @jlcox5,

Usually the duplicate order error is only getting when the prefix matches another similar ID. Can you try to update the invoicing prefix and then try again. Also, you might be getting an error code while performing the action can you share complete error with me as well?
Also, with which payment gateway you are seeing this situation?? And you have logging enabled for that? Can you look at the logs, get error details and share those with me here?

    Thanks!

    Hi Oliver,

Changing the invoicing prefix does allow us to run the payment successfully the second time, though this probably isn’t a viable solution for us long-term.

The payment gateway we are using is PayPal Payments Pro 2.0 (PayFlow). We do have logging enabled, and will send the error logs to you directly. Please let me know if I can provide any other information.

    Kind Regards,
    Jon

Yeah that would be great to submit a ticket here and include logs for us to take a look.

    Thanks!
